Trouble on the Horizon?

For many people in the cities around Chicago gangs and gang violence are just part of everyday life. For those in Ford Heights and similar areas, the violence has been steadily escalating for days and no one quite knows why. The dominant gangs appears to be splitting along previously unknown fault lines. Loyal members vanish for a few days and then come back only to shoot up their former allies with no demands or talk involved.

The most recent shooting has even gang members shocked and willing to talk to each other. Previously, it hasn’t been easy to get the leaders of the different territories to get together, but something has changed.

Bobby just came at us. We hadn’t seen him in a few days and figured he’d just been layin’ low, pissed someone off. Saw him next and he got the drop on us, just started shooting. It was bloody, I don’t know what could make anyone do that, out of nowhere, we grew up together and he just shot me in the chest four times. I’ll never forget it though, I see him again he’ll be the one bloody.

Even with the chronically low levels of educational success, the local community leaders have been able to broker meetings between gang leaders in the area. So far, no one is accepting responsibility, in fact local leaders have taken them at face value.

When one of them is fronting, you can tell. You can just tell, more often than not they’ll tell you themselves that they did it without saying it. A lot of these people lead out of fear, fear of reprisal. No one wants a war, but most of these boys agree that one is coming, the only problem is they don’t know from where.

Local Community Leader

So far the police have been silent, but that is nothing new for these neighborhoods. Word has it, that this isn’t isolated to the Heights either. Word has come in from other neighborhoods that similar things are starting to happen elsewhere. Investigations reveal numerous 911 calls from surrounding suburbs and even getting into the edges of Chicago proper. Calls are often answered late and when the police get there, there isn’t much to do other than call the coroner and file a report.

Kids are dying. Kids. I don’t care what they think, these aren’t perfect kids but who is? And what do the cops do? Nothing. They don’t care, to them it’ll be all the same if we all drop dead tomorrow. Maybe then someone will build a nice mall and golf course, then the cops would care. No, we’re on our own.

Community outrage has yet to reach officials in Chicago, or if it has they have been entirely silent. Repeated calls to the mayor’s office or the police chief have been met with no comment. The silence is deafening. If this continues, they won’t be able to stay silent forever.

Pushing the Investigation

We are looking for 2-4 players to participate in a 2-3 hour long session that will be scheduled in about 2-3 weeks from now, to allow me time to finish with the semester. We will be playing off of non-combat areas of mental illness, classic horror concepts, and a much darker universe than we’ve been going with before.

So the introductory thread for the Angelic Sins setting was supposed to have been over and done with years ago. However, we have been having trouble getting players to consistently want to participate. We’ve tried to do it on the forum and such since times don’t like to add up so people can do things. However, this is a plot that I’d like to finish. At this time, I’ve put out a call for players to volunteer for an as-yet-unscheduled event in Angelic Sins.

We are looking for 2-4 players to participate in a 2-3 hour long session that will be scheduled in about 2-3 weeks from now, to allow me time to finish with the semester. We will be playing off of non-combat areas of mental illness, classic horror concepts, and a much darker universe than we’ve been going with before.

If all participants are able, we can arrange for the session to last longer, but right now I’m looking at doing several short sessions that deal specifically with this in an episodic kind of way. Rather than trying pack an TV style episode of content into the game, these will focus on one or maybe two concepts important to the whole plot, closer to a small MMORPG Quest style of episode.

If anyone knows any players who may which to participate who may not be on the server, please invite them and see if we can build a following.

Homicide on the Drakon, Captain on Leave

On January 1st, 2385, Drem Confoscho took leave from her duties after the incident involving her newlywed husband, Fleet Admiral Lance Thomas. She was rarely seen in public within the past month and most expect she’s been staying home, although nobody answers the door.

A month after her leave, on February 11th, at 1200 hour’s, a splice was reported on the USS Drakon in the transporter room. Michaela Graeson, a close friend of Drem Confoscho. Graeson was on break in the transporter room talking to Captain Confuscho and the Second in Command of the Solerian security when she was shot nine times in the chest before being chased down by Drem Confoscho herself. Unfortunately, Graeson passed away as she was going into surgery. Security camera footage has not been released due, officials with Solas Tempus Security cites privacy concerns.

The suspect has since now been detained and is under heavy surveillance until further notice. More news will be given out as the situation unfolds.

Requesting Players for Murder Witnesses

So, I’ve been thinking about how to advance the plot in Angelic Sins. We have a murder mystery / supernatural killer plot going on there. A team has been assembled to work on it but I realized they have no work to do yet. Thus, we need to provide witnesses.

To that end, I’m going to be putting it out there for people to bring forward witnesses. We’ll do the RP for the murder’s on the server, live. Most of the witnesses will be NPC’s, more than likely, so people are free to bring a character into that without approval. Some of the witnesses could be full characters as well.

I’d like to get this rolling as soon as possible, anyone wishing to participate, let me know.

Council Convened for Ongoing Murders

The Vampire Council of the city has convened a session to discuss the ongoing threat to the city, with an increasing number of murders plaguing the city with clearly supernatural origins. The primary focus is on the set of unsolved serial murders going on with the city, as we previously reported no supernatural groups have been found responsible for the deaths nor as a cause been found. The general cause of the murders vary with every strike, but now a total of 22 murders have taken place, this number is more than doubled from the previously thought of 10 murders. Investigators have found a 2nd death corresponding to each murder, the death coming from severe brain damage. Autopsy has provided the cause of death but not how it happened, there are a number of victims in hospitals all over the city with similar brain damage, though less severe indicating a potentially greater threat. All the victims so far have been human with no link between them.

The Council has put forth a general call for investigators to descend upon the city with a substantial cash reward for those who can help solve the case and even resolve the problem entirely. While the Out of Aces Detective Agency has already thrown their hat in the ring, it is clear this could be a dangerous assignment – and they do not have exclusive rights to the case. Instead, the council has demanded that any investigators share information. The downside is failure may result in increasingly lavish punishments from the council, those who do not deliver on their word often end up dead.

Further, those with knowledge of the current investigation have told of a mysterious signal coming in over shortwave channels, someone who has been tracking the case up until this point. Details on that are sketchy but if that is indeed true it could point to a larger conspiracy on the horizon for the city. The Council itself has said nothing further other than the general call to investigate the case and seek a resolution.

Serial Killer Still at Large

The previous reports of a diabolical serial killer remain unresolved. Police investigations have stalled and little information has been passed to the public. It is clear, however, that the killings have not stopped. These bloody killings seem to involve multiple dead with differen methods which suggests a team. The FBI has been called in to profile the killers in an attempt to discover their next victem. Since the first discoveries of the killings the investigation has focused on the supernatural community. Vampires are still at the top of the suspect pool after a rogue group of teenage vampires were caught draining people in plain view of the mundanes in the area. This prompted the immediate execution of those Vampires and a statement being released that the Vampire community values its partnership with city leaders and other officials who are welcome to present any evidence of Vampire involvement. Further statements indicate that the fragile truce which has lasted for decades within the city may be fraying in places since the city has produced on such proof.

Private investigators have also been on the case, attempting to solve the problem for the community itself. Though such investigations are hardly public, one source has given the Morning Star exclusive access to documents which suggest a potential occult link which could point to ordinary humans being at fault. This has escelated tensions between mundane humans and supernatural’s who have lived in relative peace for most of the cities history. Since magic and psionic users have operated on the fringe of both socities for some time it has fallen to such leaders who attempt to hold the uneasy peace. The mayor’s office has admitted that it is considering strengthening its protections for those citizens who are less able to defend themselves, though no details have been released on exactly what this would mean. It is clear, however, that if there isn’t a break in the case soon the two major factions of the population could become violent as pressure increases to stop the killings which have left over two dozen dead in increasingly savage killings.

The peculiar habit of the killers of not only brutally murdering one but then leaving another dead of apparent brain injury has left many questioning if the two are even related. However, police have commented that there is a strong correlation and even local organized crime outfits have offered assistance to the police in uncovering who is behind these strange and savage murders.

Investigation Stalled

The investigation into numerous attacks has been stalled and stone-walled. Largely by the US Department of Defense, where officials are still choosing not to comment. Details are scant, and so far the witnesses who have come forward have recanted stating that they misunderstood what they saw before they decline to comment further. The mayor’s office has previously stated that they will find answers for those impacted by the recent attacks but that office has also fallen silent. The supernatural community has provided little in the way of explination either as many there also seem to have no idea what happened other than the fact that it appears several large scale creatures attacked the civilian population and were defeated. Reports as to the people who actually participated in the fight are sketchy at best.

Possible Home Invasions

In the Old Town Triangle area of Chicago a number of home invasions have been reported. Police have declined to comment about the ongoing investigation but have confirmed that incidents did occur in the wealthy area. Confirmed reports from other sources have also stated that several families were found dead and evidence suggests that the attacks were potentially carried about by a rogue Ghoul attempting to feed. Witnesses described a male and female pair, though it is unclear if both are Ghoul’s or just one. The pair appear to have some method for gaining entry into the apartments similar to the spells cast by a Vampire, though contacts in the Vampire community are just as anxious to resolve the situation as anyone else and claim to have no knowledge of the perpetrators.

Since magic appears to be involved beyond the normal abilities of a Ghoul the investigation has focused primarily on that community. A spokeman for the local guild of magic users have stated that they know nothing about the incidents and indicated that the answer may be found with other communities, perhaps even those with psionic abilities.

Vigilante Justice

An unknown individual has been sighted in the city performing what some are calling a public service, killing local thugs and drug dealers in cold blood. Police are investigating the claims much to the critism of some, who claim their time is better spent trying to protect law abiding citizens. Though city officials have admitted the criminal element is one which has plagued many they denounce the actions of the vigilante and have called for citizens to understand the police follow the laws and vigilantism is the gateway to chaos. Police officials have stated that if found, the vigilante will face charges for multiple counts of homocide.
